“I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!” (Job 1:21)
What’s on your mind? When you look at your current circumstances, how do you respond?
When we look at upheaval in our lives can we say with confidence the words Job spoke after losing everything that brought him happiness and comfort? Is our trust in the powerful gracious God we cannot see, or in the things and situations in our lives that we believe we control?
Very often God prunes our lives to make us healthier. Just as an orchard worker prunes trees removing dead branches and diseased branches from a tree, He removes what is unhealthy and what can potentially make us unfruitful. When a tree is pruned correctly, it becomes healthier and stronger as it produces healthy fruit.
God removes things, people, and possessions from our lives often forcing us to draw closer to him. When circumstances are out of our control, we are forced to trust in Him who has ultimate control.
Do you trust him. Are you willing to serve him even when things do not make sense? If you read Job’s story, he received unhelpful council and endured much accusation. However, he lived out his trust in God and received much more than was taken away. The same could be your reality.
