In a recent poll, 81% of those who claim to follow Christ understand that all believers are responsible to share their faith. However, 67% have not talked about Christ to anyone in the previous 6 months. What a sad set of statistics. No wonder people in our word find it themselves in hopeless situations and helpless to improve their standing in life.
There is no excuse for any follower of Christ to keep the Good News of the gospel under the classification of top secret. That it unless, of course, these so called “followers” are not attached to Christ in the first place. Anyone who denies others the opportunity to hear of the grace, mercy, and love of God is not a regenerated follower of Jesus. Anyone who refuses to openly discuss the salvation and hope offered and found in a relationship with God through the sacrifice of Christ is not a believer in God, no matter what excuse they offer.
1 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. 3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. (John 15:1-8)
No godly fruit is produced in the life of the individual if they are not attached to the vine (Christ). Those who are attached will be pruned by God for the purpose of producing much fruit. in other words, the struggles we face and overcome by the power of God working in our lives become the very testimony we share so that others can find hope. The more we share God’s intervention in our lives and the truth of his word, the more people have the opportunity to receive hope and move closer to a relationship with God
Because of God’s great faithfulness and our willingness to open our mouths and our lives to be used by him, we can be conduits by which the Holy Spirit reaches others, producing much fruit and bringing great joy to the Father.
Is there evidence of godly fruit in your life? Are you telling others of the life-changing power of God’s great salvation? If you are not inclined or refuse to do so, you will suffer the consequences of verse 6 above. Those branches who produce no fruit are gathered up and burned.
Is there some evidence that God is working in and through you? Pray that God would prune your life to make you more productive for his kingdom. Stay attached and you will persevere to the end, bringing others along to the hope promised by God’s word and as they see it play out in your life
