Most people dream of traveling to a specific place or doing a specific thing that is far beyond what would ordinarily be within the parameters of their normal every day life. Some hope to experience the rush of skydiving. Others dream of running with the bulls in Spain. Still others hope to become famous, drive a race car, travel to an exotic island paradise or a multitude of other options..

James 1:17-18 tells us that the good things in life, including those on our bucket lists which actually become a reality, are blessings from God. “17 Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.* He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”

We who have repented of our sin, who are born again, and who stand before God redeemed and forgiven of our disobedience toward Him, are more precious to him than all the good things he can and does provide for us. We are his prized possession, paid for through the sacrifice of his son at Calvary.

Not only are we his prized possession, we are also his children, adopted through his grace. As God’s children, we receive his blessings daily. God delights in lavishing his love and favor on us. He wants us to experience life in its abundance.

Many times, though, we refuse to acknowledge the everyday bounty that God so graciously provides. Like spoiled children who demand their wants be met, we often fail to see the divine provision that sustains even our very breath and existence.

Scripture says that we can enjoy the desires of our hearts.
“Take delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your hearts.”(Psalm 37:4). He doesn’t just provide willy nillly. He requires that we delight in him the way that he delights in us. We are his prized possession and his children. he should hold a similar position in our hearts and lives as the giver of life and as our heavenly Father.
