What is the mindset in the world today concerning things pertaining to God? Is anyone interested in hearing the gospel? Do people care about anything biblical? Has the name of Jesus been reduced to a mere swear word?

According to a Barna poll is just released today only 13% of Americans read the bible daily, but 2/3 of all Americans are “curious to know more about what the bible says.” 50% want to know how it applies to their own lives. Astoundingly, 63% are also “interested in finding more about who Jesus is.”

This should excite anyone who is a born again believer in Christ. Jesus said that “If I am lifted up, I will draw all men unto me.” (John 12:32) What are we waiting for? As we tell people about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, 2/3 are out there waiting to hear the story. They also want to know more about what is in the bible, which should prompt us to “rightly divide the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15) for them.

God’s word is alive. it changes lives as it convicts of sin,(Hebrews 4:12) and exposes lost people to the love, grace, and mercy of God. Jesus came to set people free from the penalty for sin and from the prospect of eternal separation from God. We who understand and who belong to God through the sacrifice of Jesus must be excited and proactive in our attempts to help those who are curious find the biblical Jesus.

Far too many churches are compromising on the truth of scripture. Their preachers preach psychological messages that change behaviors not eternal destinies. If people want to know who Jesus is, we must use scripture to tell them the whole story, including judgement, justice, repentance, and redemption, as well as grace, mercy, love and hope.

People can go to a psychologist if they want to talk about their hangups in life. They can seek the wisdom of man and maybe see some personal growth or improvement. However, the truth of the bible not only changes behavior, it sets people free from the power of sin and death (John 8:31-32). Jesus is not our “buddy.” He is God in the flesh who came to purchase our souls for the kingdom of his Father.

Let’s stop using psychology and start preaching and teaching the bible. It exposes people for who they are so that the Holy Spirit can begin the process of drawing them into an eternal relationship with God through Jesus. If people are curious, we should help them in their journey of questions.Iif they are open to understanding let’s get busy giving a reason for the hope we have within us (I Peter 3:15) so that they can experience the same life and forgiveness God has given us
