Respect and decency are missing from every aspect of our common social interaction in America today. Law enforcement officers have been targeted by those who would dump liquids on them, the so called “cancel culture” shouts angrily to stop speakers with opposing opinions, and children are out of control in the classrooms of this once great country.
Morals are almost non-existent and morality on a whole seems to have been expunged from the consciences of people in every age group and demographic. Parents expect other organizations and programs to teach their children right from wrong even though such concepts are not modeled at home.
in Romans 13, Paul tells Followers of Christ that God is aware and ultimately involved even in the general notion of government.
“Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” (Romans 13:1)
Reading the rest of the chapter gives us pause as we look at our culture today. Are there evil wrongdoers in the discipline of law enforcement? Yes. However that does not make every officer of the law evil. Are there corrupt politicians at every level of government? Of course there are. Again, that does not indicate that every politician is totally and completely dishonest. (that is of course when they first seek office) Likewise, just because a few outspoken, outlandish, ostentatious television preachers get caught in blatant sin, does not indicate that all pastors and religious leaders are charlatans.
The question is this, “How can we as believers help non-believers understand that God is in control in the midst of the immoral nonsensical way our collective governing authorities are comporting themselves?” Dishonesty is being covered up. Double dealing is denounced publicly but employed privately.
Immorality is treated as virtue by those in positions of leadership.
God gives free choice. He forces no human being to do his will. However, he will eventually expose and judge all wrongdoing.
“For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.” (Luke 8:17)
“Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!” (Luke 12:3)
“In due season God will judge everyone, both good and bad, for all their deeds.” (Ecclesiastes 3:17)
What happens politically, and in regards to law enforcement and leadership in our country may be ever increasingly tainted and/or corrupt, but we still, for a while live in a unique country. It is time for godly people to stand up for righteousness and to battle the ever increasing tide of wickedness that is being perpetrated and perpetuated at every level of government from the local school board to the congress of the United States. Pray for our country. Pray for all leaders. Live your Christian identity out loud so others can find Christ. Teach your children to live respectful and decent lives as you model both before them.
