Most parents watch over their young children vigilantly, hoping to protect them from danger and harm. Military and intelligence use surveillance, as well as deep cover agents to keep an eye on those who threaten the safety of our citizens. Police officers use informants, stakeouts, and good old -fashioned detective work to prevent crime and halt the efforts of those who would perpetrate crimes.

How is it that these human resources so easily track and know the movements of people, while we think that we can do whatever we want and God is not aware of our actions?

Proverbs 15:5 says, “The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.”

According to Proverbs 15:11, “Even Death and Destruction hold no secrets from the Lord. How much more does he know the human heart?”

God watches over the entire human race. He knows those who truly belong to him. He knows who makes service to his kingdom a priority. He encourages devotion and service by the Spirit, but will not force anyone to choose him.

Why have “Christians” become so complacent? Why is service for the kingdom secondary to other activities offered by the world? Why do we think that God won’t mind or will not see that we are serving other gods besides him? How can we be fooled into thinking that we serve God at our pleasure and our leisure? What do we teach our children and other people when we prioritize everything this world offers before serving and worshiping God?

God knows when we serve two masters. Jesus said it this way as he was talking to the Pharisees in Luke 16:15, “You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.”

God is vigilantly observing all lives. He knows when we are serving. He knows when we are complacent. He sees not only our actions, but the true condition of our hearts. If you take an honest assessment and introspection of your life and pursuits, where does God fall in as a priority?
